Job Description
Hotel Renovation with Hospitality at Heart
Project Manager / Estimator
Axis Hospitality Construction Columbus, OH (In-Office)
About Axis Hospitality Construction
Axis Hospitality Construction is a third-generation, family-owned hotel renovation contractor headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. For over 60 years, we've specialized in transforming guest experiences for premier brands like Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and Waldorf Astoria—delivering renovations that keep properties operational, protect revenue, and exceed owner expectations nationwide.
We're a lean, high-performing team that combines deep hospitality expertise with a people-first culture. As we scale, we're looking for the right person to join our Columbus headquarters and play a pivotal role in our continued growth.
The Opportunity
We're hiring a Project Manager / Estimator to support our expanding national portfolio of hotel renovations. This is a preconstruction-heavy role with a strong emphasis on estimating and bidding—designed to help offload that critical workload from leadership. You'll work hand-in-hand with the Director of Construction, Ownership, and a tight-knit team where your contributions will have immediate visibility and impact.
This is an in-office position ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic, small-company environment and wants to grow with a company rooted in family values and strategic execution.
What You'll Do
Estimating & Preconstruction (Primary Focus – ~70% of role)
Prepare accurate, detailed estimates and bid packages for hotel renovation scopes: guestroom refreshes, corridor/public space upgrades, exterior improvements, back-of-house work, and full PIP-driven projects.
Perform quantity takeoffs, scope reviews, and value engineering from architectural, MEP, FF&E drawings, and brand PIP documents.
Solicit, analyze, level, and award subcontractor bids; build and maintain a strong national network of reliable partners.
Lead collaborative value engineering sessions with ownership, designers, and brands to hit budgets while preserving quality and guest experience.
Support proposal development, client presentations, and strategic preconstruction planning.
Project Management (Supporting Role – ~30%)
Oversee select projects from preconstruction through closeout, coordinating with owners, brand reps, designers, and field teams.
Manage schedules, budgets, procurement, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and contract compliance.
Handle phasing and logistics for occupied renovations to minimize guest disruption and protect revenue.
Support field superintendents with procurement, subcontractor coordination, and on-time delivery.
Travel: Occasional site visits as needed (TBD based on project demands).
What You Bring
· 2-4 years of construction estimating and/or project management experience. Hospitality renovation experience is strongly preferred (familiarity with hotel brands, PIPs, and occupied-building logistics is a major plus).
· Strong commercial GC background in interior fit-outs, tenant improvements, or renovations is highly valued.
· Proficiency with tools like Excel, RedTeam, Box, Dropbox, or similar platforms.
· Ability to read and interpret architectural, MEP, and FF&E drawings.
· Excellent communication skills—professional, clear, and collaborative with owners, brands, designers, and teams.
· Detail-oriented with proven strengths in budgeting, scheduling, and problem-solving.
Key personal traits: Self-starter with resourcefulness, creativity, strong networking/relationship-building skills, forward-thinking mindset, and strategic orientation. Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a lean, family-oriented environment with direct access to leadership.
Why Axis
Family-owned with real impact: Third-generation leadership that treats team members like family. Your work will be seen and valued directly by ownership.
Growth and stability: Join a company that's scaling rapidly (national reach across 30+ states) while staying grounded in 60+ years of trusted relationships.
Specialized niche: Focus on high-quality hotel renovations with premier brands—no two projects are the same, and you'll gain broad exposure.
People-first culture: Lean team, open communication, and a genuine commitment to work-life balance in a supportive environment.
Long-term opportunity: Help drive our next phase of growth while building something meaningful in a specialized industry.
Location: Columbus, OH (In-Office at our headquarters)
