Project Manager (Highway / Earthworks)

Department: Projects / Construction Operations

Reports To: Managing Director (MD)

Employment Type: Full-Time (Site-Based)

Location: Lagos / Oyo State (Project Site: Highway Corridor toward Kwara State)

Industry: Civil Engineering / Highway Construction / Earthworks

Experience Required: 7–10+ Years (Minimum 5 Years in Project Management Role)

Salary Range: 500,000 – 1,500,000+ (Gross Monthly, based on experience and project track record)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Project Manager (Highway / Earthworks) to oversee the full lifecycle of major civil engineering projects, including highways, road construction, and large-scale earthworks, operating as a subcontractor under a main contractor framework.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering projects on time, within budget, and in full compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards, while ensuring seamless coordination between the client, main contractor, consultants, and internal delivery teams.

This role is strictly site-based, requiring strong leadership in remote construction environments and proven experience managing complex infrastructure projects in Nigeria or similar markets.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

Lead end-to-end planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of highway, road construction, and earthworks projects.

Develop detailed project execution plans, work programs, and resource schedules.

Ensure project milestones are achieved in line with contractual timelines and deliverables.

Project Controls & Reporting

Manage project budgets, cash flow, schedules, and resource allocation.

Track project performance against approved baselines (cost, time, quality).

Prepare and submit weekly and monthly progress reports to the Managing Director and client representatives.

Site Operations & Supervision

Supervise site engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and technical teams.

Ensure strict compliance with construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract requirements.

Coordinate day-to-day site operations for optimal productivity and efficiency.

Stakeholder & Contract Management

Liaise with main contractors, consultants, government agencies, and regulatory bodies.

Manage contract variations, claims, and change orders in line with project agreements (including FIDIC standards where applicable).

Maintain strong working relationships with all project stakeholders.

Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)

Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Ensure implementation of approved quality control systems across all project phases.

Conduct regular site inspections and safety compliance checks.

Resource & Equipment Management

Optimize utilization of manpower, materials, and heavy equipment.

Ensure timely procurement and deployment of construction resources.

Minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency on site.

Risk & Problem Solving

Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Resolve technical and operational challenges on site promptly.

Ensure continuous improvement in project delivery processes.

Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's degree is an added advantage).

Professional certification such as PMP or equivalent is highly preferred.

Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant experience in highway, road construction, or earthworks projects.

At least 5 years' experience in a Project Manager or similar senior project leadership role.

Strong knowledge of Nigerian construction industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Solid understanding of FIDIC contract conditions and large-scale civil works execution.

Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary site teams.

Strong technical, analytical, and decision-making abilities.

Ability to work effectively in remote/site-based environments under pressure.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with prior or recent experience in any of the following organizations will be highly preferred:

Experience on large-scale federal or state highway projects will be an added advantage.
