Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Site Engineer (Civil/Highway) to support the execution of major road and earthworks construction activities on-site.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day technical supervision, engineering control, and quality assurance to ensure all works are executed in line with approved drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
This role requires strong field engineering experience in highway and earthworks projects, with the ability to coordinate site operations, supervise contractors, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Supervision & Site Execution
Interpret engineering drawings and ensure accurate setting out of works (surveying, leveling, staking, alignment).
Supervise earthworks activities including excavation, filling, grading, and compaction.
Oversee construction of drainage systems, sub-base, base course, and pavement layers.
Ensure all works are executed in accordance with approved design specifications and project requirements.
Quality Control & Testing
Conduct and supervise material and soil testing (compaction tests, density tests, etc.).
Ensure compliance with quality assurance procedures and engineering standards.
Maintain accurate quality control documentation and site records.
Site Monitoring & Reporting
Monitor daily site progress, manpower utilization, and equipment performance.
Prepare daily site reports and progress updates for the Project Manager.
Track material usage and assist in preparing material requisitions.
Subcontractor Coordination
Supervise subcontractors and ensure compliance with project scope and timelines.
Evaluate subcontractor performance and report deviations or delays.
Support coordination between various site teams to ensure smooth workflow.
Technical Problem Solving
Identify and resolve technical issues arising on-site promptly.
Liaise with the Project Manager, consultants, and design engineers for technical clarifications.
Support resolution of construction discrepancies and design adjustments.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
Enforce strict adherence to site safety protocols and environmental regulations.
Participate in safety inspections and toolbox meetings.
Ensure all activities comply with approved HSE standards.
Documentation & As-Built Records
Prepare and maintain as-built drawings and engineering records.
Ensure proper documentation of site changes, variations, and progress updates.
Assist in project handover documentation where required.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5–8+ years' experience as a Site Engineer on road, highway, or earthworks projects.
Strong experience working with reputable construction companies.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, surveying instruments, and relevant construction software.
Solid understanding of Nigerian road construction standards and QA/QC procedures.
Strong technical, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in site-based and remote project environments.

Salary & Benefits
Monthly gross salary: 280,000 – 550,000+ (based on experience and competence)
