JOB SUMMARY Member of multi-discipline team responsible for electrical design in support of developing Non-Destructive Test (NDT) equipment and associated automated delivery systems (robotics, instrumentation, and sensors). Design applications are diverse and include both digital and analog design principles.
Examples include precision motion control utilizing servo motor/encoder systems, D/A and power systems, and embedded control systems utilizing FPGA, CPLD, and microprocessor building blocks and interfaces.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Electrical designer providing technical and project leadership.
Capable of designing prototype solutions and guiding the product development team in implementation.
Designs printed circuit board assemblies from conceptualization and analyses to detailed implementation utilizing typical computer-aided schematic and design simulation tools.
Implements designs within Zetec new product development process, including specification, detailed design documentation (e.g., schematic, bill of material, cost), design review, prototyping, test support, and hand-off to production.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional team members as necessary to develop specifications, select components, and oversee printed circuit board assembly layout design.
Ensures completed prototypes are appropriately tested and documented to ensure that it meets its intended design goals.
Maintains a sound understanding of Zetec product technology and develop an understanding of the principles of eddy current testing.
Researches and incorporates new technology in design and redesign of components, products, and equipment.
Provides estimated cost and delivery information needed for quotes and project planning, as requested.
Provides ongoing engineering support of released products including design enhancements, customizations, and cost reductions.
Leads design reviews and drives consensus on the decisions needed to design a product that meets all customer specifications in a timely manner.
Supports the development of department personnel through mentoring and coaching.
Evaluates technical risks and mitigation options for proposed design requirements.
Stay current with industry related codes, Zetec Quality Assurance manuals.
Occasional extended hours may be required to fulfill the requirements of this position.
Other duties as required in support of the department and the company.

Ability to estimate part & assembly costs throughout different stages of product development.
Demonstrated experience creating/incorporating design for cost (DFC), design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA). Experience with environmental testing.
Experience with signal processing, sensor design or similar technology.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required.
Minimum of 8 years industry experience in printed circuit design, development, analysis, and delivery of products with electrical systems preferred.
