Senior Software Engineer

We are seeking a hands-on Java Spring Boot Developer to support a large-scale Check Modernization initiative within a major enterprise banking environment. This platform processes approximately 5 million checks nightly representing billions of dollars in transactions.

This is a long-term modernization effort focused on migrating legacy mainframe applications to modern cloud-based architecture. The organization is currently consolidating 27 applications into 4 strategic platforms over a 4–6 year roadmap and is about halfway through the transformation.

The selected candidate will join one Agile Scrum team as a full contributing developer with approximately 100% focus on modernization and hands-on coding.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and enhance enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot

Support modernization and migration efforts from mainframe to cloud-based systems

Build and maintain event-driven and messaging-based integrations using Kafka and JMS

Develop scalable microservices and distributed application components

Collaborate with onshore and offshore Scrum teams across Columbus and India

Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment activities, and production support

Contribute to cloud-native development and containerized deployments

Support highly critical financial systems processing high-volume nightly transactions

Required Skills

6+ years of Java development experience

6+ years of Spring Boot experience

3+ years of cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Strong hands-on backend development experience

Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Must complete and provide a HackerRank or Glider assessment

Preferred Skills

Kafka

JMS / Messaging technologies

Kubernetes

Azure experience preferred (any cloud platform accepted)

Experience supporting modernization initiatives and microservices architecture

Ability to convert to full-time employment without sponsorship

Additional Details

Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite in Columbus, OH (mandatory)

One 30-minute virtual panel interview

Potential future weekend production support rotation
