The Arts & College Preparatory Academy (ACPA) is an arts focused, independent community school on the east side of Columbus that serves a diverse population of students in grades 7 through 12 from over 25 different districts in Central Ohio. The Assistant Principal supports schoolwide excellence by partnering with staff to strengthen curriculum, lead meaningful professional development, enhance instructional practices, facilitate effective Teacher-Based Teams (TBTs), and drive data-informed assessment practices in reading, mathematics, and across content areas. This role also supports initiatives that promote student creativity, academic achievement, and college readiness while carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.

Supervision

Assistant Principal will collaborate with the High School Principal, Middle School Principal, Superintendent and building leadership to create and implement rigorous academic and arts centered programming that is aligned with ACPA’s mission, vision, and values.

Assistant Principal will share leadership and responsibility of the overall management and operations of instructional areas of ACPA to include curriculum development, staff supervision, student support, community engagement, and overall vision development.

Assistant Principal will support building level instructional operations, including but not limited to: addressing student and staff needs, adhering to school policies, schedules, budgets, overseeing funds, and collaborating with district personnel to ensure the long-term fiscal health of the organization, problem-solving, school technology, etc.

In collaboration with the instructional, counseling and student support staff, the Assistant Principal is expected to implement a values-based, equitable, and consistent discipline system as stated in the student handbook while working with the teachers to help improve student academic performance, engagement, commitment to the arts, work ethic, general attitudes, attendance, behavior, and overall success.

Assistant Principal is expected to be responsive to student, staff and general school emergencies and disruptions to the daily school day.

Assistant Principal is responsible for supervision of an assigned number of after school events and performances, and ensuring that events are appropriately supervised by additional staff. Attendance is also required at New Student & Staff Orientation, Prom and Graduation.

The Assistant Principal will support Building Principals and Director of Operations in aiding in the safety and security of students, staff, families and community in the building and surrounding area which may include accounting for key fobs and access to the building.

The Assistant Principal will be the building Safety Team Coordinator and collaborate with the Director of Operations.

Assistant Principal will supervise and manage Summer School, collaborating with district administrators and teachers to ensure students are completing credit recovery, and meeting attendance requirements.

Assessment and Data

Assistant Principal will lead school-wide MTSS implementation by creating a framework and data-driven process to identify students in need of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, coordinating academic and behavioral supports, monitoring intervention effectiveness, and collaborating with staff, families, and support teams to improve student outcomes.

Assist with implementation of school-wide PBIS strategies to support high student behavior outcomes.

Assist in providing academic support for struggling students using Response to Intervention (RTI)

Assistant Principal will support the Testing Coordinator in overseeing the planning, training, security, and administration of state-mandated and standardized assessments while supporting staff with logistical and technical needs

Curriculum Development

Assistant Principal will assist in the direction, supervision, and evaluation of the building instructional program.

Assistant Principal will assist in the maintenance and improvement of the quality of the instructional program.

Assistant Principal will support the Principals and collaborate with the counseling department to coordinate and facilitate the development of the building master schedule.

Assistant Principal will support the Principal in overseeing the course proposal process.

Communication

Assistant Principal will regularly and effectively communicate with staff through multiple avenues that include but are not limited to staff meetings, one-on-one conversations, and email to ensure that the needs of students, staff, and the school are being met.

Assistant Principal is responsible for communicating and working collaboratively with parents, students, and staff to resolve issues and concerns in a manner that supports students and ensures the integrity of the school.

Assistant Principal is responsible for consistent communication with parents/caregivers regarding student-centered needs, individual plans, ACPA programs, procedures and logistics. These messages include, but are not limited to: transportation, summer school, failure of a class, summer reading, and community and extracurricular activities.

Evaluation and Professional Development

Assistant Principal is expected to conduct OTES and Counselor evaluations as directed by the Principal for an assigned cohort of teachers.

Assistant Principal is responsible for conducting informal classroom walkthroughs and for providing feedback to teachers when appropriate based on walkthroughs.

Assistant Principal is expected to collaborate with the Superintendent, Principals, LPDC, and staff to conduct assessments to determine needs and provide necessary support and professional development to foster alignment with District Mission, Vision, and Values

Collaboration

Assistant Principal will collaborate with the Principals, counseling, intervention and student support departments through regular team meetings focused on student academic, social, emotional, and community needs, including but not limited to grades, transcripts, graduation requirements, college and career readiness, overall school culture and climate, and individual student needs and interventions.

Assistant Principal is responsible for oversight of the College Credit Plus and Credit Flexibility programs by working with coordinators, school counselors, student support staff, and students participating in the programs in order to ensure that ACPA is following appropriate state policies and accommodating student needs.

Assistant Principal is responsible for working in collaboration with the Intervention Department and classroom teachers to ensure that accommodations for students with IEP’s and 504 plans are being implemented appropriately.
