Position Description - Assistant Controller

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, self-starter, and hands-on Assistant Controller in a full time salaried position to join our Finance team and play a key role in the day-to-day
financial operations of the Club.
This is not a passive or purely supervisory role. We are looking for a working leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, owning the details, and ensuring that the
accounting function operates with accuracy, discipline, and consistency.
The Assistant Controller will work closely with and report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and serve as a key partner to department leaders across the Club, helping to support sound financial management and decision-making.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, including journal entries and account analyses.
• Take an active role in the monthly and year-end close process.
• Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis.
• Assist in overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes.
• Support internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
• Prepare audit schedules and assist with the annual audit process.
• Document accounting systems, workflows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Assist in maintaining and improving financial systems and reporting tools.
• Provide day-to-day support to accounting staff and lead by example through hands-on involvement.
• Collaborate with department heads to ensure effective financial management across all areas of the Club.
• Oversee the accounting for various revenue streams including golf, food & beverage, special events, and member dues.
• Oversee the accuracy and completeness of monthly inventory practices.
• Provide support for capital project accounting and reporting.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
What We're Looking For
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3–6 years of accounting or finance experience (hospitality or private club experience is a plus).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close and reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Prior experience with automated club software solutions such as Jonas, Clubessential, Northstar, Club Benchmarking, etc.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, analysis, etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint solutions.
Preferred
• CPA or CPA-track
• CHAE (Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive) certification
• Experience using various Artificial Intelligence solutions to automate/augment work product and outcomes
• Superior written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to interface with all levels of management, external vendors, and club members.

This is NOT a remote work position. The position is full-time and requires presence in the office from 8:00 am - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
