Rise Academy is seeking a dependable, organized, and service-oriented School Chef to oversee the daily operation of our school food service program. This part-time position is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals for high school students and staff while maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen environment.
The ideal candidate is a trained culinary professional who can independently manage all aspects of a small-scale food program, including menu planning, purchasing, inventory management, food preparation, and compliance with health and safety standards. This role is essential to supporting the overall student experience and promoting healthy, consistent meal service within our school community.

Key Responsibilities
Meal Planning & Preparation
Plan and prepare daily breakfast and lunch for students and staff
Develop balanced, appealing menus that meet nutritional standards and student preferences
Adjust menus as needed based on dietary restrictions, allergies, and feedback
Ensure meals are prepared on time and served in a consistent, high-quality mannerFood Purchasing & Inventory Management
Manage all food ordering and purchasing within budget guidelines
Maintain inventory of food supplies, kitchen materials, and equipment
Track usage and reduce waste through effective planning and storage practices
Build relationships with vendors and suppliers as neededKitchen Operations & Safety
Maintain a clean, organized, and fully functional kitchen environment
Ensure compliance with all health, sanitation, and food safety standards
Follow proper food handling, storage, and preparation procedures
Oversee daily kitchen opening and closing proceduresCompliance & Certification
Maintain current ServSafe certification (required)
Ensure all food service practices meet local and state health regulations
Participate in required inspections and maintain accurate recordsCollaboration & School Support
Coordinate with school leadership regarding menus, events, and scheduling needs
Support special events, catering, or community meals as needed
Work with a kitchen assistant or volunteer support staff when available
Communicate effectively with students and staff regarding meal service
Schedule
Part-time position (typically early morning to early afternoon)
Hours may vary based on meal preparation needs, ordering schedules, and school calendar
Occasional additional hours for planning, inventory, or special eventsRequirements:
Professional culinary experience required (restaurant, catering, school food service, or similar setting)
ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain before start date)
Experience in menu planning, food purchasing, and kitchen operations
Ability to work independently and manage a full food program
Strong organizational and time management skills
