School Safety Center

Assisting local schools and law enforcement with preventing, preparing for, and responding to threats and acts of violence, including self-harm, through a holistic, solutions-based approach to improving school safety.

Option 1

Completion of undergraduate core program or 24 mos. exp. in assigned program area (e.g., engineering, landscape architecture, rehabilitation, mental health technology, transportation, physical, behavioral & social science, urban or community planning, natural resources, business or public administration);

AND 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in operational, mathematical, analytical or statistical research methods used in conducting & documenting research studies;

AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations;

AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in budgeting;

AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in technical writing or business communication.

Option 2

-Or 6 mos. exp. as Planner 2, 85312, in assigned program area.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

POSITION SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must acquire and maintain Protected Critical Infrastructure

Information (PCII) certification.

Job Skills: Planning and Development

This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123\: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). This position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.

Background Check Information

A BCI fingerprint check and a background check may be required on all selected applicants.

What You'll Do as a School Safety Planner

Aid in &/or conduct school security & vulnerability assessments.

Conduct outreach & assessments, review security plans & prepared documents for assigned State/Public/Private facilities &/or properties to include emergency operation plans for compliance with state and federal statutes.

Inform manager & Ohio School Safety Center Executive Director of real &/or potential infrastructure security issues that could adversely affect Ohio schools & higher education institutions (Public & Private), properties & citizens.

Assist in the development of best practice guides & marketing for emergency management for K-12 & higher education.

Provide research on school safety emergency management exercise & planning best practices for the purpose of information sharing & developing tools for Ohio schools & universities.

Assist with developing & implementing trainings.

Assist with the annual school safety summit development & implementation.
