ATC West Healthcare is seeking a Board Certified Hand Surgeon to provide 24-hour trauma call coverage in Lansing, Michigan. This locum opportunity is designed to support ongoing hand trauma coverage needs approximately 10 days per month, with a relatively low call volume and strong trauma team support. The position offers the opportunity to manage complex hand trauma and reconstructive cases while working in a high-volume emergency and trauma environment.
The provider will deliver trauma call coverage for adolescent through geriatric patients, including consults, procedures, and occasional follow-up clinic visits as needed. The role focuses primarily on hand-related trauma and reconstructive procedures, with additional plastic surgery-related coverage responsibilities. Dates / Schedule
Coverage Dates: ASAP through December 2026
Practice Setting: 24-hour trauma call coverage at an ACS Verified Level One Trauma Center
Shift Schedule: 7:00 AM 7:00 AM
Coverage Need: Approximately 10 days per month
Call Ratio: Negotiable
Credentialing Timeline: 120+ days

Patient Population: Ages 15 years and older Job Details / Responsibilities
Provide 24-hour hand trauma call coverage
Respond in person when procedures are required
Evaluate and manage hand trauma consults and follow-up cases
Perform hand-related surgical procedures and traumatic hand reconstruction
Perform general plastic surgery procedures including:
Facial laceration repair
Scar revisions
Skin grafts
Flap procedures
Minor burn care
Collaborate with trauma services and hospital support teams
Participate in occasional clinic follow-up visits as needed
Support a facility with approximately 90,000 annual ER visits
Help reduce patient transfers by managing local hand trauma cases Case Volume / Practice Environment
Average surgical volume: Approximately 1 surgical case per month
Summer surgical volume: Approximately 3 cases per month
Approximately 50 permanent hand cases annually at the site
Majority of coverage involves being on call with relatively low patient volume
Current hand/plastic surgery support includes:
1 Hand coverage provider
1 Community plastics provider
2 Hospital-employed orthopedic hand surgeons
Trauma team available to assist with rounding and support Required Skills & Qualifications
Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, or General Surgery required
Fellowship training in Hand Surgery required
Active full Michigan medical license required (no Compact or IMLC accepted)
BLS and ACLS certifications highly preferred
Experience with traumatic hand reconstruction and hand-related procedures required
Ability to independently manage trauma call coverage in a Level One Trauma Center environment
Self-Query NPDB report dated within the current month required at presentation
