Telematics Test Engineer
Location: Columbus, IN
Pay: $51/hour
Standard business hours, generally 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM with some flexibility.

Position Overview
We are seeking a Telematics Test Engineer to support validation activities for connected vehicle technologies, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and cloud-integrated telematics systems. This role will own end-to-end test execution activities, including automation, validation reporting, and troubleshooting across embedded devices, vehicle networks, and backend cloud systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with telematics validation, CAN communication protocols, and embedded system testing within an Agile development environment.
Key Responsibilities
Test Execution & Validation
Own end-to-end test execution activities, including automation and documentation within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Validate OTA software updates, connected services, and data acquisition functionality.
Execute normal, negative, and edge-case testing scenarios.
Support validation activities across embedded systems, telematics devices, and cloud-connected platforms.
Maintain test readiness standards, documentation quality, and progress reporting.
Technical Troubleshooting & Support
Debug complex issues involving ECMs, telematics devices, vehicle communication networks, and backend cloud systems.
Analyze CAN/J1939/UDS network communication and interpret diagnostic logs.
Support integration and release activities for connected digital solutions.
Collaborate with engineering and project teams to resolve technical issues quickly and effectively.
Automation & Process Improvement
Develop automation tools and scripts to improve testing efficiency and increase coverage.
Create and maintain reusable test artifacts, validation evidence, and coverage documentation.
Support continuous improvement of validation processes and reusable testing frameworks.
Assist with dashboard and reporting development to track validation progress and quality metrics.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
Experience with telematics and connected vehicle validation.
Strong understanding of OTA software update workflows and connected services validation.
Experience validating embedded systems or connected devices.
Advanced knowledge of CAN, J1939, and UDS protocols.
Experience using CANalyzer, PCAN, or similar network analysis tools.
Basic understanding of cloud platforms and backend architectures, including Azure and AWS.
Experience developing automation tools or scripting for validation activities.
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across hardware, embedded software, and backend systems.
Experience working within Agile development environments.
Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for test management and defect tracking.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience improving validation processes or reusable test frameworks.
Familiarity with cloud-to-device integration architectures within telematics systems.
Experience creating dashboards or reports to monitor validation progress and quality metrics.
