Description:

General Engineer (Video Analyst)

The ideal candidate is an aerospace, computer, mechanical or electronics engineer interested in improving the safety of the traveling public by extracting vehicle positions and orientations (or other parametric) data from video, audio and photographs, then documenting the results to help characterize the sequence of events in an accident. As a General Engineer (Video Analyst), you will perform the following major duties:

Analyze video, photographs, and audio, along with other pertinent information to determine an accurate time history of vehicle motion and sequence of events.

Write and/or use computer programs to analyze video, photographs and audio to determine vehicle paths and investigate accident vehicle dynamics.

Identify features in photographs or video that can be used to calibrate the camera, extract three-dimensional positions and orientations of one or more vehicles, and calculate the rates of change of those parameters.

Develop plots or other graphical displays to assist in communicating findings.

Write detailed technical reports of investigation findings and provide support for safety recommendations intended to prevent future mishaps.

Develop mathematical models of optics, camera properties, image formation and lens distortion to analyze video and photographs.
