Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES QA/QC Coordinator/Inspector

Responsible for QA / QC of Civil and Electrical related activities in regards to ITS (Important To Safety) nuclear construction work. Performs inspections, surveillances, and audits of civil/structural work to ensure the pad is built to design specifications, drawings, procedures, and regulatory commitments. This role emphasizes independent verification, documentation, and non-conformance control in a high-stakes nuclear environment.

Job Duties:

Maintain standards of safety and comply with company’s Health, Safety and Environmental management systems requirements.

Perform in-process and final inspections of ISFSI pad construction activities, including concrete placement, formwork, reinforcement steel (rebar), embedments, curing, and finishing.

Verify compliance with approved design documents, construction drawings, specifications, procedures, and codes (e.g., ACI standards, ASTM material specs).

Conduct or witness material receipt inspections, testing (e.g., concrete slump, air content, compressive strength), and installation verifications for safety-related components.

Perform surveillances and audits of contractor activities to ensure adherence to the approved QA program and work processes.

Identify, document, and track non-conformances, deficiencies, or deviations; work with engineering and construction teams on corrective actions and resolution.

Maintain accurate and complete quality records, inspection reports, and turnover documentation in accordance with nuclear QA record-keeping requirements.

Interface with NRC inspectors, utility QA personnel, and contractors during oversight activities and regulatory inspections.

Ensure strict compliance with nuclear safety, radiation protection, and industrial safety protocols.

Participate in or lead QC-related training and qualification activities for site personnel as needed.

Review and approve contractor QC documentation and work packages.

Skills and Qualifications (5–15 Years Experience)

Education

Associate’s degree or higher in civil engineering, construction management, quality assurance, or a related technical field is preferred.

Experience

5–15 years in quality control/inspection, with at least 3–5+ years in nuclear or highly regulated construction (power, heavy industrial, or DOE facilities).

Direct experience with safety-related concrete/structural construction, preferably on ISFSI pads, nuclear plant modifications, or similar critical infrastructure.

Hands-on experience with civil/structural QC inspections, including rebar, concrete, and heavy load foundations.

Certifications and Training

ANSI/ASNT or equivalent Level II (or higher) certifications in relevant NDE methods (e.g., visual, ultrasonic) are highly desirable.

QC Inspector certification (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Inspector – CQI) or nuclear-specific QC training.

Training/qualification in nuclear QA programs (e.g., NQA-1), 10 CFR 50 Appendix B or Part 72 requirements, and site-specific procedures.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

Thorough understanding of nuclear construction codes, standards, and regulations (NRC, ACI 349, ASTM, etc.).

Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and QA procedures.

Strong knowledge of concrete testing, structural inspection techniques, and material traceability.

Experience with non-conformance reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action programs.

Familiarity with ISFSI-specific design and licensing considerations (seismic qualification, load handling, long-term durability).

Other Requirements

U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (for unescorted nuclear access).

Ability to pass background checks, psychological evaluations, and fitness-for-duty testing.

Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions, including extended shifts during critical pours or outages.Company Description
