Group Benefits Technology team is seeking a highly motivated and skilled developer to be a part of a team of software engineers supporting the Electronic Commerce Processing, Internal Web Platforms, and Cashback applications within Nationwide Specialty Insurance. You'll help stabilize and simplify critical NSI flows while advancing our move from Perl to Python and improving data quality and speed for our business partners.

This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week. Remote internal associates may also be considered.

Primary responsibilities:

Provide production support (triage, root cause, remediation) and drive prevention through fixes, tests, and documentation.

Collaboration with internal and external business partners

Participating in the delivery of quality solutions

Adhering to best practices, tools, and consistent processes across various technical domains

Participating in design, development, and implementation of IT solutions

Must-have qualifications:

Strong experience in Python (with ability to support legacy Perl during transition), SQL, and ETL/data pipelines.

Snowflake and Oracle

Secure coding practices and familiarity with PII/HIPAA/regulated data handling

Version control (Git/GitHub) and CI/CD (Harness, GitHub Actions)

Agile team experience and DevSecOps mindset

Effective communicator

Comfortable troubleshooting across app/data/integration layers

Nice-to-have qualifications:

Power BI/Reporting

Java, Angular

UAC Scheduler

Kubernetes (Rancher) and Cloud Native Platform (CNP)

APIs (design/consumption), automation, and observability tooling

This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
