Program Manager, Data Science

This role is responsible for advancing the organization's use of Generative AI and analytics to transform complex operational and plant performance data into actionable intelligence. The position drives the development of secure, scalable, and ethically sound AI-enabled solutions that enhance decision-making, improve insight delivery, and support strategic business outcomes. By bridging generative AI methodologies with practical analytics applications, the role enables cross-functional teams to leverage data more effectively through automated insights, robust data pipelines, and intuitive visualizations.

Essential Functions

Integrates Generative AI (Gen AI) capabilities into analytics workflows to automate text summarization, report generation, and predictive insights that support business objectives

Designs and implements prompt engineering strategies to improve model accuracy, relevance, and efficiency

Applies advanced techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to combine structured data with generative models for enhanced contextual accuracy

Collaborates with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize high-value Gen AI use cases aligned with organizational goals

Monitors, validates, and optimizes Gen AI solutions for performance, scalability, and compliance with security and ethical standards

Develops and maintains AI-enabled applications, data pipelines, and analytical methods to ingest, process, and analyze structured and unstructured plant performance data, enabling automated insight generation and decision support

Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive federally regulated plant data in all AI and analytics solutions

Fine-tunes and adapts language models (proprietary and open-weight) and trains supervised/unsupervised ML models on domain-specific corpora to optimize task performance

Architects and deploys RESTful APIs and ETL/ELT data pipelines to serve AI/ML model inference in production environments

Implements systematic evaluation frameworks for generative AI outputs including automated hallucination detection, scoring metrics, human-in-the-loop validation, and adversarial testing

Communicates insights effectively through interactive dashboards and visualizations using Power BI or similar platforms

Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Deep knowledge of Generative AI, natural language processing (NLP), and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), including similarity methods, embeddings, vector databases (e.g., FAISS), and prompt/model optimization techniques

Strong proficiency in software and analytics development using Python, R, SQL, Power BI, and related tools, with solid software engineering practices (testing, modular design, code reviews, and version control using Git)

Hands-on experience fine-tuning and adapting large language models using transfer learning across transformer architectures

Knowledge of data science and analytics techniques, including statistical analysis, optimization, simulation, and supervised/unsupervised machine learning, with advanced ability to analyze complex data and trends to inform business decisions

Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade AI/ML solutions, including APIs (e.g., FastAPI), MLOps pipelines, CI/CD, monitoring, and evaluation frameworks

Knowledge of data governance, schema validation, and automated data quality monitoring to ensure secure, reliable, and compliant AI and analytics solutions

Ability to balance model performance with infrastructure constraints, including latency, throughput, cost, and scalability considerations

Demonstrates extensive knowledge of data science, leading initiatives, mentoring team members, and driving innovation and strategic improvements within the organization

Ability to convey complex ideas and project strategies in a clear and compelling manner to stakeholders, project teams and senior leadership

Ability to lead diverse teams to achieve common goals, while mentoring team members

Demonstrates advanced planning, organizational, and time management skills, leading multiple projects within the program, guiding all stakeholders, and driving strategic initiatives to achieve organizational goals

Ability to foster collaboration across different departments or teams to harness collective creativity and drive innovation. Strong communication skills to effectively convey ideas and facilitate discussions. Demonstrated impact in cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment and synergy among diverse teams

Advanced ability to work and maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive/private information

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

Required

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred

Master's degree in a relevant specialty area with an emphasis in analysis techniques, such as statistics, mathematics, data analytics, data science, or business analytics

Experience

Required

Five or more years of professional work experience

Three or more years of experience in data science, data analytics, business analytics, or machine learning

Preferred

Two or more years' experience as an analyst

Two or more years as a project manager

Must be able to work prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
