Job Summary

The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety and environmental programs within the molten aluminum recycling facility. Key duties include conducting risk assessments, leading safety training, managing incident investigations, and handling environmental permits and waste management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Program development and implementation: Create, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSE programs, including Lockout/Tagout, emergency procedures, and safety protocols.

Risk management: Conduct regular facility walks to identify potential hazards and implement preventative measures, with a focus on foundry-specific risks like molten metal, dust, and heavy machinery.

Training and education: Develop and deliver safety training for all employees, including new hires and job-specific training, to ensure understanding and adherence to safety procedures.

Incident investigation: Lead investigations into accidents and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.

Environmental compliance: Manage environmental permits, monitor air and water discharges, and oversee waste management and recycling programs.

Regulatory liaison: Act as the primary contact with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance, resolve issues, and maintain good working relationships.

Auditing and record-keeping: Perform regular internal audits and maintain all HSE-related documentation, including safety data sheets (SDS) and the OSHA 300 Logs, training records, and exposure monitoring.

Worker's compensation: Manage the worker's compensation program, including claims and costs, with the goal of reducing liability.

HSE leadership: Serve as a member of the site leadership team, driving HSE culture, and collaborating with other departments on HSE-related projects and initiatives.

Safety Committee: Chair the plant Safety Committee and lead monthly safety meetings, safety walks, and toolbox talks.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.

5+ years of progressive HSE experience in an industrial, recycling, or manufacturing environment.

In-depth knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, and experience working with molten metals preferred.

Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM strongly desired.

Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and environmental reporting software.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to emergencies effectively.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform walkthroughs in hot, dusty, and noisy industrial environments.

Use of PPE including fire-resistant clothing, respirators, and hearing protection is required.

Must be able to stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.

Work Environment

Split between office and plant settings. Frequent exposure to molten metal processing operations and outdoor environmental monitoring conditions.
