Senior R&D Process Development Engineer

Are you a highly skilled and motivated Senior R&D Process Development Engineer passionate about bioprocessing and separation technologies? Join our leading research and development team to lead end-to-end process development, scale innovative unit operations, mentor engineers, and deliver validated, cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

The Senior R&D Process Development Engineer leads end-to-end process development projects and is accountable for delivering scalable, cost-effective, and robust manufacturing process solutions for our R&D projects. This role provides technical leadership in process design, optimization, and validation while evaluating and implementing new technologies in the areas of separation technologies and bioprocess unit operations. The senior PD engineer manages multiple medium-to-large-scale, cross-functional projects, mentors and supervises interns and R&D engineers, and plays a key role in technology transfer, process validation, and exploratory R&D initiatives.

Lead multiple process development projects, co-own sub-projects, and ensure successful deliverables on time and within budget.

Design and execute new experiments using advanced experimental design principles; apply statistical and data analysis techniques to interpret results and guide process decisions.

Manage project scope, timeline, budget, and deliverables for medium-scale crossfunctional efforts. Drive the development, optimization, and scale-up of new and existing processes from concept through commercialization.

Manage project planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cross-functional coordination to meet defined milestones.

Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and supervision for junior engineers and interns; take ownership of departmental and organizational initiatives.

Oversee process validation, technology transfer, troubleshooting, and implementation of long-term process improvements.

Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including SOPs, validation reports, and risk assessments.

Apply advanced 3D design skills and GD&T principles to design, evaluate, and refine large-scale assemblies.

Utilize process controls knowledge to develop control logic and flow diagrams as required.

Promote innovation and idea generation by evaluating and implementing emerging technologies.

Contribute to exploratory work and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency and robustness.

Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure process scalability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Mentor and guide junior engineers, interns, and co-ops, supporting their technical growth and project contributions. Apply knowledge of regulatory requirements, quality standards, and safety protocols to process development.

This is an on-site role based out of our headquarters in Camarillo, CA.

The skills and experience you'll need:

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

7+ years of progressive experience in R&D process development, technology development, or manufacturing science roles.

Proven track record leading multiple complex process development and scale-up projects.

Strong project management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and cross-functional coordination.

Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship of junior team members, interns, and engineers.

Expertise in experimental design, advanced statistical analysis, and data interpretation.

Advanced 3D design skills (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and familiarity with GD&T principles.

Working knowledge of process controls and ability to create control logic or flow diagrams.

Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.

Experience with process validation, technology transfer, exploratory research, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Familiarity with cGMP and regulated manufacturing environments preferred

US BASE PAY SCALE $134,200 - $170,000

The base pay scale for this role is what Meissner reasonably expects to pay for the position although actual pay may vary from this scale depending on an applicant's experience.
