Job Title: SQL Server DBA Location: New Albany, OH/Roanoke, VA Duration: 8 Months Contract to hire Pay Rate: $70 to 75/Hr on W2 Description: We are looking for a talented and proactive SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in SQL development and performance tuning, particularly within the utility sector.
This position involves a blend of database administration and development responsibilities, focusing on optimizing database performance and supporting application teams in real-time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems.
Responsibilities Database Administration Monitor and maintain database health, performance, and security.
Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies.
Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
Manage user access and roles, ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies.
Perform audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain security standards.
Analyze and optimize SQL queries and overall database performance.
Identify and resolve bottlenecks in database systems.
Implement indexing, tuning strategies, and partitioning for performance gains.
Resolve platform-related issues and participate in incident response.
Coordinate with vendors for product-related issues, patches, and bug fixes.
Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and business analysts to understand new requirements and recommend high-level direction and approach.
Provide support for development, testing, and production environments.
Develop scripts for monitoring, maintenance, and automation tasks.
Utilize tools like shell scripting, Python, or Perl to automate processes.
Required Skills and Experience SQL Server DBA 5-7 years of Proven experience in installation, configuration, and management of SQL Server (including multiple instances on a single server/VM). Expertise in performance tuning, index management, and SQL query optimization.
Strong skills in TSQL and PowerShell.
Nice to Have Working experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
Background in utility space, real-time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems is an added advantage.
Education & Experience Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2 years of relevant experience OR Associate’s degree in a related field with 4 years of relevant experience OR High school diploma/GED with 6 years of relevant experience
