PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Operations Technician will provide comprehensive support across the entire bureau team, working closely with the News Content team, Arabic News Content, programmes, and Monitoring, with the remote assistance of other technicians and engineers internationally, to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. This includes maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of local IT equipment, such as Windows laptops, desktop computers, Macbooks, switches and other IT infrastructure, as well as supporting some broadcast-related systems where needed.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

This role sits within the International Business & Operations team based in Beirut, a close-knit team of five people working collaboratively to support the wider 30+ bureau team’s technical and operational needs.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

Maintain a strong understanding of at least one end to end operational IT workflow, including its purpose and requirements

Monitor support structures to ensure issues are resolved promptly, escalating where necessary

Ensure workflows run smoothly and consistently to agreed operational standards

Respond quickly and effectively when required, including out of hours or urgent issues

Identify workflow problems early and initiate appropriate corrective action

Work closely with stakeholders, prioritising tasks under the guidance of senior colleagues and accurately logging activity in Remedy

Communicate clearly with team members, follow operational instructions, and maintain awareness of health, safety and security requirements

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Experience in an operational IT support or customer facing role, ideally supporting live or business critical services

Strong computer literacy, with hands on experience using Windows and macOS operating systems and common business applications

Solid understanding of IT systems, hardware and software, including how they operate together in a live environment

Practical experience troubleshooting and maintaining IT hardware such as desktops, laptops, peripherals and basic networking

Proven ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues using structured problem solving approaches, including incident and request management

Familiarity with monitoring tools, ticketing systems and escalation processes, alongside strong administrative and documentation skills

Confident communicator with the ability to work under pressure, explain technical issues clearly to non technical users, and collaborate effectively as part of a team while adhering to organisational policies and health and safety standards

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

• Problem solving methodologies.

• Experience in media and creative environments.

• Experience supporting audio-visual or media/broadcast equipment

• Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs).

• Understanding of cloud services (e.g. Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS)
