Description:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Accounting, the successful candidate will fill the 10-month contract position of Assistant Controller in our Corporate Finance group in Calgary. As the Assistant Controller, you will be working closely with the other Assistant Controller and will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and analysis of financial accounting information, as well as planning and evaluating the departmental controls and accounting standards. This position is also responsible for the management of staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As part of your varied duties as an Assistant Controller, you will:

Review and oversee the preparation of monthly and annual audit working paper files.

Manage the timely reporting of financial and operating results to the shareholder and business unit leader.

Assist with the budget and forecasting processes.

Assist in the preparation of annual audited financial statements.

Prepare weekly cash flow reporting and forecast.

Review fee invoices, GST/HST/QST filings and journal entries.

Prepare quarterly client profitability reports.

Establish and maintain internal controls.

Work with the Corporate Finance team to review and amend accounting policies and procedures.

Provide leadership and training to the accounting team regarding accounting and reporting standards, policies and procedures.

Mentor and manage direct reports on a daily basis.

Provide service excellence to all customers; both internal and external.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Success as an Assistant Controller calls for a solid professional background that includes:

University degree preferably specialising in accounting.

5-7 years of accounting experience in commercial property management.

Accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA).

Strong technical skills.

3 years of supervisory experience.

Experience in providing timely and accurate reports to internal and external clients.

Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Organized and enthusiastic individual who has attention to detail and is able to work in a team environment as well as independently.
