David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client to recruit for an Operations Manager.

Our client is seeking a dynamic Operations Manager to lead a winning team at their Fort McMurray location. This individual will be responsible for leading a local office / warehouse and team of service technicians in a designated territory. The incumbent is responsible for partnering with the Sales and Service teams in delivering our strategic initiatives and delivering excellent customer-centric solutions to our most valued customers.

the role

Plan the day to day activities of the Ft McMurray team to ensure customer requirements are met

Coordinate with the Global Supply Chain all Oil Sands parts requirements and manage appropriate inventory to support customer activities

Participate in weekly conference calls to minimize supply chain issues

Meet with Key Accounts to establish annual parts usage requirements

Manage customer complaints in a timely manner

Partner closely with the Sales and Engineering teams to drive Oil Sands improvement initiatives as required

Drive aftermarket sales and service growth through the sales and service teams

Manage the development of the assigned staff by enforcing cross functional training

Administer the merit budget, performance review and developmental review process for personnel assigned

Ensure the dedicated, focused and capable staff meets current and future needs by enforcing that all staff respects Personnel Policies, and Code of Conduct

Oversee the continuous improvement of the HSEQL program

Participate in Management planning meetings

Supply reports and participate in monthly accountability meetings

Able to work in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves and others

Able to demonstrate compliance to company safety procedures and legal

the ideal candidate

Technical Degree or Diploma in a relevant field, ideally with a mechanical (Millwright, Engineering, Technologist) focus. Extensive experience in mineral processing, rotating equipment or with prior exposure to severe duty market segments

Comprehensive understanding of supply chain, effective inventory control, and continuous process improvement are preferred

A minimum of (10-15) years of combined experience in performing and managing service and operations functions of engineered pumping equipment and packaged solutions, or other engineered industrial equipment used in the mining sector

Strong preference will be given to candidates with prior management and/or direct customer-facing service experience with progressive exposure to engineered products. In-depth understanding of mineral processing applications and/or mining market would be considered an asset

Approximately ~40% travel on a consistent basis is required for this role. Travel will require over nights and at times will be more or less than the percentage shown. Overseas travel may be required

Strong customer-centric aptitude and clean driving record are required

Professional designation is an asset. P. Eng., CET, or Millwright Designation would be considered an asset

Exceptional ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and employees of the company. Solid active listening skills and consultative approach to selling

Excellent numerical skills to understand interpret and troubleshoot complex engineering problems and commercial aspects of sales management
