PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Provides technical support in implementation and maintenance of occupational safety and environmental programs, including Permit-required Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, Lockout of Hazardous Energy, Fall Protection and Personal Protective Equipment.

2. Conducts risk assessments of hazard exposures, and recommends measures to eliminate or reduce exposures to an acceptable level.

3. Conducts safety training (e.g., Annual Safety Refresher, Safety for Supervisors, Asbestos Awareness) for NJ TRANSIT employees as required.

4. Investigates occupational safety and environmental concerns as required. Recommends remedial actions.

5. Provides technical support in the development, implementation and maintenance of related environmental safety programs.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, or safety-related field from a US Department of Education accredited college or university, and two (2) years of experience in occupational safety, health and/or environmental programs are required. Knowledge of safety principles and systems is required and occupational environmental principles is highly desired. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local safety regulations, requirements and standards is required. CSP, OHST or equivalent certification desired. One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
