Job Description:

Surgical Technologist II (CSFA) aids in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to intraoperative duties, the Surgical Technologist II may also perform preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The Surgical Technologist II performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon.


1 year experience required


Completion of a Surgical Technician program

Graduation from a surgical assisting program accredited by the CAAHEP


CSFA (Certified Surgical First Assist) REQUIRED


Job Functions:

Cauterizing wounds and vessels

Packing sponges in body

Positioning patient to maintain circulation and access for surgeon

Placing clamps and sutures

Applying direct pressure on veins and tissue

Performing or aiding in patient suction, drainage and irrigation

Hemostasis: The stopping of excess bleeding and blood flow

Immobilizing patients on the operating table

Appropriate placement and securing of retractors

Digital manipulation of tissue

Applying hemostatic agents and clips

Utilizing running or interrupted sutures with absorbable or non-absorbable material of wound layers including muscle and fascia

Utilize subcuticular closure technique.

Closing skin with adhesives, sutures or staples etc.


Provides safe intraoperative care by following safe use of laser, electro cautery and pneumatic tourniquets

Safely prepares and labels all medications on the procedural field.

Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings.

Provides assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue

Participates in volume replacement or auto transfusion techniques as appropriate

Postoperative subcutaneous injection of local anesthetic per surgeon’s directive

Able to function in role of Surgical Technologist I
