Volt is immediately hiring for Electrical Engineer (Power Electronics) in Columbus, IN
As an Electrical engineer (Power Electronics), you will:
Perform hands-on diagnostics, testing, and troubleshooting of power electronics and rotating machinery systems, including motors, rotors, bearings, and associated mechanical/electrical interfaces.
Support installation, validation, and maintenance of high-voltage components, ensuring compliance with insulation resistance requirements and safety standards.
Capture, interpret, and analyze CAN bus data, including J1939 communication, using tools such as P-CAN Explorer, CANalyzer, and CANape.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve electrical and mechanical issues affecting system performance.
Document findings, test results, and corrective actions with clarity and technical accuracy.
Contribute to system-level improvements through root-cause analysis and component-level insights. Investigates electronic application and systems problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members.
Applies and improves electronic application and systems development processes and tools.
Processes include system specification, modeling and simulation, calibration, Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and troubleshooting.
Application of tools for simulation, calibration, and product life maintenance required.
Makes decisions in the areas of electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and test that impact the quality and performance of calibrated subsystems and feature classes of electronic subsystems.
Delivers independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge.
Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.
This is a full-time 6 months Contract opportunity.
Required Skills:
Electrical engineering background with strong foundational understanding of circuits, high-voltage systems, and power electronics.
Deep system understanding and practical troubleshooting.
Working with high voltage systems, analyzing complex communication data, and bridging electrical and mechanical domains
Demonstrated hands-on experience working directly with hardware is not a project-management role.
Proficiency in interpreting CAN traces and working with J1939 protocols.
Ability to work with mechanical subsystems such as motors, rotors, and bearings, understanding their interaction with electrical components.
Experience evaluating insulation resistance and other high-voltage safety metrics
Pay Range: $40.00/hr to 65.00/hr
Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
