Job Description


The Customer Master Strategist position is responsible for leading and coordinating initiatives that drive accurate and timely Customer Master data by determining best practices and ensuring they are followed by all stakeholders (customer service, pricing, sales, IT). The incumbent will ensure company’s business-wide requirements are met, and business Order to Cash processes are not interrupted and run successfully.

Additionally, the Customer Master Strategist’s concentration should focus towards the current and future role of Customer Master within organization, by understanding all of the businesses’ and SAP’s nuances to determine best practices and individual business requirements in order to lead the aforementioned initiatives.

The successful candidate will have a balanced business perspective and a background in working with Sales, Customer Service, Pricing, Credit & Collections, and tax teams, and shall have demonstrated the ability to effectively and efficiently process information, which will likely come from multiple sources.

The focus of the position will be to ensure the Customer Master team is proactively engaged with the businesses (stakeholders), by effectively communicating and working collaboratively with the businesses to identify and resolve any problems or complexities.

This will be accomplished by:

•determining proper customer hierarchy setups

•analyzing price-driving fields in Customer Master to ensure proper billing and rebate accruals

•ensuring data conversion issues are properly addressed prior to each future SAP wave

•leading cross-business unit / SAP COE teams in problem solving and reporting challenges

•ensuring proper controls are in place while supporting the business unit service level agreement

•addressing acquisitions/mergers in a timely manner to ensure rebate accruals are properly stated across businesses

•preparing monthly activity reports

•documenting and correcting any results that fail the service level agreement

•ensuring the 3rd-party audits of the procedures are timely and documented

This position may require occasional travel as SAP is implemented in each business unit.


•Coordinate improvements in business processes to enhance the way customer data is managed and represented

•Define and coordinate company-wide strategy to ensure standardization of Customer Master data across all business groups

•Be a uniting force between all stakeholders (customer service/pricing groups, sales groups, IT/SAP, and Export)

•Engage and partner with IT and Export teams, and each business unit’s customer service & pricing groups to improve the accuracy and timing of the data required

•Steer the Customer Master data initiatives while making sure that the businesses and IT work together

•Identify and establish best practices for adoption, integration, and continuous improvement of customer data across organization

•Develop intimate understanding of business needs and ensure data management solutions help business units to deliver on their strategies

•Manage projects in the areas of data migration, master data management, data clean up, data governance and quality

•Manage successful execution of strategic data management projects

•Advocate and communicate across organization about how 'clean' customer data delivers customer-focused outcomes (proper pricing, correct output conditions, etc.)

•Interact with Customer Master Supervisor to ensure best practices are current and applicable, all acquisition/mergers are properly implemented for each business, all business-related changes (sales regions, pricing regions, etc.) are properly maintained and updated in SAP

Profile description


•5 - 7 years’ experience in customer master maintenance or a similar supply chain function.

•SAP experience is critical, JD Edwards and/or BPCS experience is desirable.

•A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree would be beneficial.

•Understanding of internal control processes.

•Progressive mindset and aptitude in learning and adapting to new technology and productivity tools and an expert skill level of Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and Access.
