Wage Transparency:
The base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
About The Role The Senior Retirement Consultant is responsible for servicing and managing a dedicated block of group retirement plan clients, acting as a trusted advisor to plan sponsors and key stakeholders. This role focuses on delivering high quality consulting support, retaining and deepening client relationships, and providing strategic guidance on plan design, governance, provider oversight, and member outcomes.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge, excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to proactively identify opportunities to enhance plan effectiveness while ensuring regulatory and best practice compliance.
What You’ll Do
Serve as the primary consultant and day to day relationship manager for an assigned block of group retirement plan clients, ensuring consistent, high quality service
Build strong, long term relationships with plan sponsors, committees, and internal stakeholders to support client retention and satisfaction
Lead annual plan reviews and ongoing touchpoints to assess plan performance, member outcomes, and alignment with client objective
Proactively identify potential risks, service issues, or retention concerns and develop solutions in collaboration with internal teams and vendors
Advise clients on plan design enhancements, including eligibility, contribution structures, automatic features, investment menu considerations, and member engagement strategies
Provide guidance on plan governance, CAP Guidelines, and applicable legislative and regulatory requirements (federal and provincial)
Support clients through plan changes, vendor transitions, or special projects, ensuring a smooth and well communicated experience
Manage consulting time and service models to ensure alignment between client needs, compensation, and overall account profitability
Contribute to retention strategies and growth opportunities by identifying integrated sale or service enhancement opportunities where appropriate
Work closely with internal service, operations, and leadership teams to deliver a seamless client experience
Act as a subject matter resource for peers on plan governance, best practices, and complex client scenarios
Support team knowledge sharing, process improvements, and service standards across the retirement consulting practice
Follow industry best practices (CAP Guidelines) and applicable federal/provincial legislation when providing recommendations and insight related to plan governance and plan management at the direction of the VP, Retirement Services
What You Bring
College or university graduate, or equivalent business experience required
Valid LLQP (will be required to obtain within one year of employment date if not already in place)
Completion of the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation (RPA) an asset
Typically, five years’ experience within the group retirement insurance industry, preferably within customer service or account management. Alternatively experience within the Financial Planning/Insurance industry
Strong oral and written communications skills
A passion for investing with a strong understanding of capital markets would be beneficial
Ability to present capital market concepts and understand investment performance results would be ideal for this role
Strong knowledge and experience related to group plan investment options/plans (i.e., pensions, RRSPs, DPSPs and TFSAs) and the investment categories required to build a solid investment lineup for group plan members
Excellent listener and communicator with project management, presentation and negotiation skills
A positive attitude and works well as a member of a team
Strength in application of computer skills; including Word, Excel; Power Point and Outlook
Strength in quality, detail-orientation and mathematical aptitude
Commitment to providing excellence in client service experiences
Demonstrated ability to coordinate a high level of activity while maintaining exceptional client focus and strong professional acumen
