The Ohioan Hotel and Event Center (Formally Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center) is searching for a Sales Manager!

Job Summary:

This individual’s primary responsibility is to drive revenue through the sales of weddings and social events by building strong client relationships and generating new business opportunities. The role focuses on selling event space, guest room accommodations, and food and beverage offerings while delivering exceptional service and creating a seamless, positive sales experience from initial inquiry through contract execution. This position typically follows a Tuesday through Saturday schedule to align with client availability and business needs.

Essential Functions:

Demonstrates a strong customer service ethic by embracing The Ohioan’s mission statement, consistently exceeding client expectations, and delivering authentic hospitality to every guest and client interaction.

Establishes and expands a client base within the wedding and social segment by proactively prospecting and cultivating relationships with engaged couples, families, wedding planners, and key community partners. Generates new business through direct outreach, phone and email communication, hosting venue tours, attending networking events, and developing industry partnerships to meet or exceed established sales goals.

Negotiates and secures wedding and social event business including room blocks, event space, food and beverage minimums, and hotel services within approved booking guidelines. Prepares and confirms all agreements in writing through contracts and event documentation, ensuring clear communication with all relevant hotel departments.

Participates in targeted sales efforts such as attending bridal shows, wedding expos, and key market events, as well as sales trips when appropriate, to maximize exposure and generate new wedding and social business.

Actively engages in industry and community organizations to build relationships, increase brand awareness, and uncover new sales opportunities within the wedding and social market.

Conducts property tours and hosts qualified prospective clients, showcasing the hotel’s event spaces and amenities in alignment with company standards and sales strategies.

Supports the Director of Sales/Assistant Director of Sales in developing budget forecasts, sales goals, and strategic action plans specific to the wedding and social segment.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date client records and sales activity within the CRM system, ensuring timely reporting and communication with the Director of Sales/Assistant Director of Sales.

Meets or exceeds established goals for prospecting, site visits, and revenue production.

Manages multiple sales opportunities simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to varying client timelines and priorities.

Participates in The Ohioan’s Manager on Duty Program.

Performs other duties as assigned by management.

These physical demands represent the physical requirements necessary for an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the described essential functions of the position.

Position may require some outside sales selling that includes walking for long periods of time during Sales Blitz opportunities.

As an MOD, heavy workloads requiring the ability exert up to 100 pounds of force and the ability to regularly lift 55 lbs.

Qualifications, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of two years’ experience in sales or marketing to include one year in hospitality or hotel sales.

Proficient using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mail Merges, Email and Web searches.

Affiliations and Memberships with local Industry Associations such as Devoted Pros, HSMAI, ILEA a plus.

Experience with Delphi and Opera operating systems preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone with high level of professionalism to deal effectively with all types of personalities.

Superb organizational skills – ability to prioritize, multi-task, direct and solve problems effectively with little supervision.

Highly enthusiastic and self-motivated.

Time management and ability to prioritize job duties and projects.

Ability to work with and win over multiple personalities when working toward a common goal for a successful overall outcome.

Ability to work with a team to fully deliver on guests’ expectations.

Travel

Local and regional travel is required, including occasional overnight trips, to support sales efforts within the wedding and social market. A valid Ohio driver’s license is required. The selected candidate must provide proof of a valid driver’s license upon hire.
