Paraprofessional (Instructional Aide)

Location: Sierra Sands California

Location: Ridgecrest California

Position Type: Per Diem

Pay: $24.00 / hour

Position Summary:

A Paraprofessional (Instructional Aide) supports certificated teachers in delivering instructional services to students in classroom settings. This role assists with academic instruction, behavior management, and student supervision to help create a positive and effective learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist teachers with implementing lesson plans and instructional activities

• Provide one-on-one or small group support to students

• Support students with special needs, including academic, behavioral, and physical assistance

• Reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher

• Monitor and manage student behavior in accordance with school policies

• Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and instructional materials

• Supervise students during recess, lunch, field trips, and transitions

• Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior as directed

• Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and occasionally parents

• Support a safe and inclusive classroom environment

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)

• Associate’s degree or completion of 48 college units (preferred or may be required per California standards)

• Passing score on a paraprofessional competency exam (e.g., CBEST or district-approved test)

• Experience working with children or in an educational setting (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic understanding of child development and instructional strategies

• Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with teachers

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Patience, flexibility, and reliability

• Ability to manage student behavior positively

• Basic clerical and organizational skills

Working Conditions:

• Classroom and outdoor school environments

• May include working with students with physical or behavioral challenges

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and light lifting

Certifications & Requirements (California):

• Compliance with California Department of Education paraprofessional requirements

• TB test clearance and background check (Live Scan fingerprinting)

• CPR/First Aid certification (may be required by district)
