The Role Legend is hiring a Staff Software Engineer.

This is an opportunity to shape the technical foundation of a high-growth product in the social gaming space — a market scaling rapidly worldwide.

You’ll help design and implement the backend and platform architecture that powers real-time tournaments, delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing systems players rely on.

You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver high-quality solutions while applying modern practices like Domain-Driven Design, SOLID, and GRASP.

Your Impact

Design and implement application architecture that is scalable, maintainable, observable, and high-performing.

Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.

Conduct code reviews, review architecture, and contribute to engineering best practices.

Identify and optimise performance bottlenecks across systems.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful features.

Ensure application security, implementing safeguards against vulnerabilities.

Take part and lead decisions for the major capabilities, helping teams translate business and product needs into clear, practical technical roadmaps.

Serve as a product-engineering subject-matter expert (SME) for the domain, mapping capabilities into well defined domains and ensuring they deliver required business and product services within the wider technical platform.

Lead by example through hands-on coding, creating new capabilities or evolving existing ones and driving adoption of best software engineering principles and practices, alongside continuous mentorship and guidance to the teams.

Communicate complex solutions clearly to stakeholders inside and outside the area, while embedding a strong product engineering culture across teams.

What You'll Bring

Strong hands-on experience building customer-facing web products using React and Next.js.

A strong front-end engineering background, ideally with full-stack experience to work confidently across APIs, integrations and system boundaries.

Proven experience designing and evolving software architecture across complex systems, multiple codebases or related product domains.

A strong product engineering mindset, with the ability to translate product requirements into clear technical designs, staged delivery plans and high-quality implementations.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

A coaching mindset — someone who enjoys helping others grow, raising standards and making best practices stick without ego.

Ideally you will also have:

Experience with PHP and Vue/Vue components.

Experience working on membership, community, personalisation, gamification or user-retention products.

Experience working on high-traffic websites.

Experience applying Domain-Driven Design, SOLID, GRASP or other software design principles in a practical product environment.

The Interview Process

Initial Chat with Talent Partner (45 mins via Zoom)

Interview with our Technical team (1 hour video via Zoom)

Technical Interview with coding exercise with our Technical team (1.5 hour video via Zoom or 2x 1hr interview via Zoom depending on your preference)

Interview with our Non-Technical team (1 hour video via Zoom)

Final Interview with our Technical Leadership Team (1 hour video via Zoom).
