Accountant / Controller - 3 months

Our construction materials client is seeking a hands-on Accountant / Controller to take ownership of the month-end and year-end close process within a growing organization.

The initial term is 3 months with the potential to convert to a permanent role at the conclusion of the contract. This Accountant / Controller role is ideal for someone who thrives in environments where processes need to be built, refined, and stabilized. You will play a key role in strengthening financial reporting, cleaning up historical accounts, and implementing structured, repeatable procedures.

Key Responsibilities of the Accountant / Controller:

Lead and execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities for 2026, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

Perform detailed balance sheet and P&L reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies

Clean up historical accounts, including correcting mis-postings and performing necessary reclassifications

Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules in compliance with accounting standards

Design, document, and implement a structured month-end and financial close process where gaps exist

Partner with leadership to improve financial visibility and reporting accuracy

Develop and refine processes related to vendor rebates and related accounting treatments

Qualifications:

CPA designation (preferred)

GreatPlains ERP experience (REQUIRED)

Proven experience managing full-cycle month-end close in a hands-on capacity

Strong reconciliation and financial statement preparation experience

Demonstrated ability to clean up and restructure accounting records

Experience building and improving accounting processes in less structured environments

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with leadership
