Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler safely moves and handles long sheet metal materials using a sit-down forklift while supporting daily shipping, receiving, and inventory operations. This role combines physical material handling with accurate computer-based inventory tracking in a busy warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

Load and unload sheet metal materials, including heavy lifting, to and from forklifts and designated storage areas.

Operate a sit-down forklift to move extremely long, wide-load sheet metal throughout the plant and occasionally outdoors.

Handle materials safely and efficiently when dropping off and picking up loads to prevent damage and ensure proper placement.

Perform warehouse inventory tasks, including counting, organizing, and tracking materials.

Use a computer-based Warehouse Management System (WMS) to enter, update, and verify inventory and shipment information.

Review and verify part numbers and documentation with a high level of attention to detail, without relying on RF scanners.

Support shipping activities by preparing materials for outbound shipments according to internal procedures.

Assist with receiving tasks, including checking incoming materials against documentation and updating system records.

Collaborate with the warehouse team to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating forklifts and handling materials indoors and outdoors.Essential Skills

At least 1 year of experience operating a forklift, preferably a sit-down forklift.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in inventory, shipping, and receiving functions.

At least 1 year of experience using computers for work-related tasks.

Ability to perform heavy lifting on a daily basis to handle sheet metal materials.

Comfort operating a forklift both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

Strong attention to detail when reviewing part numbers and entering data without RF scanners.

Basic proficiency with computer systems and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).

Ability to work effectively as part of a warehouse team.Additional Skills & Qualifications

Previous experience working with sheet metal or similar industrial materials.

Experience in a warehouse environment that relies on manual verification rather than RF scanners.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in shipping, receiving, and inventory.

Work Environment

The role is based in a warehouse and plant setting that is not fully climate controlled. The facility uses fans during hot weather and heaters during cold weather to improve comfort. You will operate a sit-down forklift both indoors and outdoors and regularly handle long, wide-load sheet metal materials. Standard hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with overtime on Fridays as needed, often providing a fair amount of additional hours. The environment is active and hands-on, requiring safe material handling and close collaboration with the warehouse team.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAINT LOUIS, MO.Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
