Description:

1. Conceive, design, and implement a phase and amplitude calibration strategy for a digital phased array operating in low-Earth orbit.

2. Lead the selection and design of satellite antenna technologies.

3. Lead R&D efforts towards designing, modeling, and prototyping a range of antennas using advanced E&M tools and simulations such as HFSS (High-Frequency Structure Simulator) and CST (Computer Simulation Technology) towards use in a digital phased array.

4. Interface with signal processing and FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) beamformer team to ensure that FPGA backend and digital spectrometer telecom software shows results consistent with expectations.

5. Conceive and design the RF/analog front-end electronic circuits for a radio transceiver system including transimpedance amplifiers, filters, gain stages, etc.

6. Interface with RF/EE analog design teams towards integrating RF front-end and antenna on a system-level.

7. Integrate custom calibration algorithms, RF (Radio Frequency) front-end electronics, antennas, FPGAs (Field-Programmable Gate Array) and telecom software on a systems engineering level into a complete digital phased array payload for a low-Earth orbiting satellite.

8. Conduct extensive testing of the antenna + analog receiver, and run a thorough campaign of EM (Electromagnetic) tests of the digital phased array including antenna beam measurements, desense, EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), EVM (Error Vector Magnitude), and RX (receiver) sensitivity.

9. Design and plan payload testing configurations on the ground when testing payload communications performance both in-lab and in-orbit.

10. Provide comprehensive support for spacecraft payload assembly, integration, and testing through to final delivery to launch providers and spacecraft bus partners/vendors.

11. Interface with the Systems Engineering team to inform constellation/network architecture and design based on RF communications payload performance.

12. Support, develop, and maintain technical documentation for payload design and development.

Requires three (3) years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Experience must have included:

a) Concepting and testing timing and phase synchronization of the receiver for acquiring polarimetric measurements.

b) Designing and modeling antennas.

c) Working with the signal processing/FPGA team to ensure that the digital spectrometer shows results consistent with expectations.

d) Designing, fabricating and constructing analog circuitry including transimpedance amplifiers, filters, and gain stages.

e) Conducting extensive testing of the antenna + analog receiver.

f) Microwave Engineering, RF Engineering, Circuits, System Engineering, Signal processing, Remote Sensing, and Space Engineering.

Requires a Master’s degree or foreign educational equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field.
