Title: Construction Technology/Woodshop Teacher (.6 FTE)

Reports to: Site Principal

Salary Schedule Range: Depends on Experience (Highest placement would be at Class III, Step 13 of the Teacher Salary Schedule, available online in the Human Resources section of the District website). Annual stipends for a Master’s and a Doctorate degree.

Purpose of Position: To teach carpentry and other woodshop skills to students in grades 7-8.

Essential Functions:

Direct and guide in the selection and development of appropriate elective projects and experiments.

Demonstrate the proper use of materials, tools, equipment, and processes.

Instruct students and staff in the safe use, care, and operation of tools, machines, and equipment.

Create an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff.

Promote ethical use of information.

To engage and support students in standards-based instruction and learning in English Language Arts.

To provide assessments for learning (formative assessments) and assessments of learning (summative assessments).

To analyze student assessments to develop instructional materials for the class, including individualized and small group instruction as necessary, in order to make the curriculum accessible for all students.

To establish and maintain high expectations for all students.

To create and maintain effective learning environments for all students.

To communicate with parents/guardians regarding the student’s individual progress.

To promote positive interpersonal relationships among peers, staff, students, parents/guardians, and the public.

To actively participate as a team member, including but not limited to Professional Learning Communities, and during IEPs

To differentiate instruction within the universal curriculum.

To provide appropriate instructional interventions within the classroom.

To support the Restorative Approach philosophy when working with students.

To engage in ongoing, collaborative professional learning.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Ability to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations.

Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.

Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter, and observing students.

Ability to hear and understand speech at normal speech levels.

Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Ability to carry up to 25 pounds.

Moderate to high stress levels.

Work is predominantly in a school environment.

Climate is normal; occasional adverse weather conditions.

Daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff.

Regular contact with parents, community members, and outside agency personnel.

Abilities and Knowledge:

Proper use of hand tools and machines, such as a lathe, planer, power saws, and drill press.

Precise measurement with instruments such as a micrometer.

To establish rapport and work constructively with staff, students, parents, and community members.

Required Qualifications:

Valid California Credential in Single Subject Industrial Technology (Emphasis in Woodshop/Carpentry) or CTE authorizing Building Trades.

Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD or BCLAD) credential, or equivalent EL Authorization.
