Job Summary

The position is responsible for providing specialized teaching assistance by performing tasks related to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program.

Essential Duties

To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Collaborates with teachers to create lesson plans that enable students to succeed in STEM fields.

Utilizes county pacing guides to coordinate projects in the STEM lab to reinforce what teachers are teaching in the classroom.

Plans projects based on the availability of materials and improvisations where necessary.

Organizes and prepares the classroom and/or lab with the necessary materials for the lesson.

Instructs various subject areas to small groups of students and facilitates “hands-on” activities to promote critical thinking skills and encourage collaboration and teamwork.

Monitors students and provides classroom coverage when the teacher is away.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

ParaPro Certification.

At least one (1) year of successful work experience.

Previous experience working with special education and students with autism and spectrum disorders preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrates knowledge of science, mathematics, reading, writing, and grammar.

Ability to operate smart board, computer, and robots used in the STEM lab.

Have good physical and emotional health.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift uo 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The n se level in the work environment is usually moderate.
