Description:

Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, Technical Services, you will lead the Mine Planning, Geology, and Geotechnical departments. You serve as the vital link between long-term strategy and execution, ensuring that tactical plans are safe, geologically accurate, and seamlessly aligned with the Life of Mine (LOM) vision. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

Strategic Integration & Collaboration:

Act as the primary technical partner to the Strategic LOM and Resource Modeling teams. You will ensure that tactical pit designs and sequences honor the long-term value drivers while providing "boots-on-the-ground" feedback to refine future resource models and LOM assumptions.

Tactical Execution Leadership:

Direct the 0–36 months and 5-year planning window, transforming the LOM strategy into high-precision, executable schedules that meet production targets while optimizing equipment utilization.

Geotechnical & Structural Integrity:

Oversee the geotechnical team to manage slope stability, monitoring, and ground support designs. You are responsible for ensuring that the pit remains a safe and stable environment for personnel and equipment.

Ore Body Custodianship:

Lead the Mine Geology department in executing world-class grade control and reconciliation. Ensure that the reserve and grade control models are effectively applied at the face to minimize dilution and maximize metal recovery.

Operational Design Compliance:

Provide technical governance over all active mining areas, ensuring that haul roads, benches, and waste dumps are built to engineered specifications.

Technical Risk Management:

Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks—whether geotechnical instability or geological variance—before they impact the production critical path.

Bench Strength & Mentorship:

Develop a high-performing technical culture, mentoring engineers and geoscientists to bridge the gap between theoretical design and operational reality.

Bachelors or Maters Degree in Mining Engineering;

Bachelor’s Degree in Mining or Geological Engineering; P.Eng or P.Geo registration in Ontario.

15+ years of experience in large-scale open-pit mining, with at least 5 years in a multi-disciplinary leadership role;

A proven track record of working across cross-functional departmental lines. You must demonstrate the ability to influence and collaborate with Strategic and Resource teams to achieve a unified site objective;

Expert knowledge of mine planning and/or geology software (Vulcan, Deswik, etc.) and a deep understanding of how short-term execution impacts long-term asset value;

The ability to communicate complex tactical constraints to strategic planners and translate high-level strategy into clear instructions for the pit floor.

In addition you will have:

Proven and exemplary organizational, leadership and communication skills and a professional and collaborative approach to problem solving;

High level of integrity and accountability;

Highly influential with strong facilitation, negotiation and contractor management skills.

Your Work Schedule:

Schedule: 4/3 schedule at our Detour Lake mine site;

Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
