Saw Operator / General Labor

Job Description

This role combines warehouse work with saw operation and general labor in a busy steel facility. You will train primarily on 1st shift and then move into a 2nd or 3rd shift position, operating multiple saws, measuring and cutting steel materials, and handling inventory. The position requires reliability, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to work in a demanding, industrial environment.

Responsibilities

Train on 1st shift (typically 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) before moving to a 2nd or 3rd shift assignment, with flexibility for training on 2nd or 3rd shift if necessary.

Work 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Friday) or 3rd shift (7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday), as assigned.

Operate up to four saws simultaneously to cut alloy and carbon materials ranging from 1/2 inch to 6 inches thick.

Use tape measures and other measuring tools accurately to ensure materials are cut to precise specifications.

Perform general labor tasks in the warehouse, including material movement, shop cleanup, and assisting with production needs.

Use a chain sling, overhead crane, and magnets to safely move materials around the shop.

Load and unload trucks and materials as needed to support shipping and receiving activities.

Check and track inventory to ensure materials are available and properly documented.

Complete and pass a tape measure test as part of the hiring and onboarding process.

Maintain a strong attendance record by showing up every day on time and ready to work.

Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating equipment and handling materials.

Collaborate with team members, communicate effectively, and contribute to a positive, hardworking team environment.

Be willing to get dirty, work hard, and adapt to the demands of a heavy-duty steel facility.

Essential Skills

Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure, including passing a tape measure test.

Capability to operate saws or quickly learn saw operation in a production environment.

Comfort using material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, chain slings, and magnets after training.

Strong attention to detail when measuring and cutting materials from 1/2 inch to 6 inches thick.

Physical ability to perform general labor tasks in a steel warehouse, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.

Consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality.

Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift and to complete training on 1st shift as needed.

Readiness to work in a dirty, dark, and damp industrial environment.

Team-oriented mindset with a desire to work hard and support coworkers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Previous saw operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is a plus.

Experience in steel, recycling, or other heavy-duty industrial environments is highly beneficial.

Material handling experience, including hi-lo or forklift operation, is an advantage.

Experience with bandsaws or similar cutting equipment is helpful.

Prior experience in general labor or warehouse roles in an industrial facility is preferred.

Work Environment

This position is based in a dirty, dark, and damp steel facility where heavy materials and industrial equipment are part of the daily routine. You will work in a hands-on environment that requires rolling up your sleeves and being comfortable getting dirty. The role involves operating saws and using overhead cranes, chain slings, and magnets to move steel. Training typically occurs on 1st shift (5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), with regular work on 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday through Friday) or 3rd shift (7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday).
