Position Summary
The Multi-State Licensed Attorney will provide legal oversight, litigation support, and compliance guidance for a debt collections firm operating across multiple jurisdictions. This role requires an attorney licensed in multiple states who can manage a high-volume portfolio of collection matters, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and represent the firm and its clients in court proceedings occasionally.
Key Responsibilities
Handle litigation matters related to debt collection across multiple states, including drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlement agreements
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and state-specific collection statutes
Review and approve legal documents
Collaborate with internal operations, compliance, and account management teams to support legal workflows
Manage relationships with local counsel in jurisdictions where additional representation is required
Monitor changes in state and federal laws affecting debt collection practices and implement necessary policy updates
Maintain accurate case documentation and ensure timely reporting of litigation activity
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Active bar membership in multiple U.S. states (required/preferred Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky)
Minimum [37] years of experience in litigation, preferably in debt collection, creditor rights, or consumer finance law
Strong knowledge of FDCPA, FCRA, and relevant state debt collection laws
Experience handling high-volume litigation dockets is strongly preferred
Excellent written and verbal advocacy skills
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple jurisdictions and deadlines
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
