The City of Ojai is seeking dependable and community minded individuals to join our team as Part Time Trolley Drivers. We are working to expand our reserve driver pool to ensure continuity of operations and maintain the high level of service our residents rely on.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Part Time Trolley Drivers play a vital role in supporting the City's trolley system by safely operating City vehicles along established routes, providing excellent customer service to riders, and assisting with maintaining timely, reliable transit service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Safely operate a City trolley on assigned routes and schedules.
• Provide courteous, professional service to passengers, including assisting riders with disabilities as needed.
• Perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
• Follow all City, state, and federal transit regulations.
• Serve as a reliable member of the reserve driving pool to ensure continuous service coverage.
SCHEDULE
• Part time, variable schedule including weekdays, weekends, mornings, afternoons, and evenings depending on service needs.
• Shifts may be assigned in advance or on short notice to support operational continuity.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Valid California Commercial Class C driver's license with Passenger endorsement (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Clean driving record and ability to meet City insurance standards.
• Prior commercial or transit driving experience preferred, but not required.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

• $25.20 - $30.63 per hour.

TROLLEY DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, to operate a trackless trolley style (or substitute) vehicle on a fixed route schedule and ensure passenger safety.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Drive assigned vehicle on a fixed route and on schedule.
Assist passengers with the boarding or disembarking of assigned vehicle.
Drive with due regard to the safety and comfort of passengers and motorists.
Collect, tabulate, and report ridership and farebox data including service to disabled passengers.
Collect fares, make change, and keep records of amounts collected.
Maintain equipment and report deficiencies immediately.
Answer questions regarding routes and time schedules of various local transit systems.
Ensure equipment is in a clean and sanitary condition at all times.
Participate in training and education programs.
Reconcile and balance collection of fares.
OTHER JOB-RELATED DUTIES: Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Rules and regulations governing operations of public passenger vehicles.
Safety procedures and safe work practices related to transit operation.
Traffic laws and regulations applicable to operation of a trolley on public streets.
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
Safe driving principles and practices.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of trolley and transit equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Maintain a satisfactory driving record.
Follow an assigned route maintaining appropriate time schedules.
Collect and balance fares.
Deal with members of the public tactfully and courteously.
Maintain accurate records.
Inspect vehicles for possible mechanical and other safety concerns.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Prior experience as a bus driver is desirable.
Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma.
License or Certificate: Possession of a California Commercial Class C driver's license with Passenger endorsement
Special Requirements: Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 50 lbs.; exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, and chemicals; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for shift work.
This position is subject to DOT drug/alcohol testing requirements.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference/background check (to include a conviction record) and pass a post-offer pre-employment medical examination (which may include a drug/alcohol screening depending upon job classification). New employees must provide documentation to establish both identity and work authorization.
