CAREER OPPORTUNITY - PURCHASING ASSISTANT

Our client, a well-established wholesale company with over 37 years in the industry, specialises in supplying wines, champagne, port, and a wide range of dry and frozen food products to hotels and restaurants. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join their team as a Purchasing Assistant.

The Role

The Purchasing Assistant will assist the Purchasing Manager as directed and will be responsible for:

Costing of inventory, ensuring timely completion and accuracy with respect to any taxes and duties.

Ensuring all invoices are forwarded to the Purchasing Manager and the Accounts Department.

Ensuring current filing of all Costings, Purchase orders, Government tenders and general documentation relating to the Purchasing Department.

Assisting with Customs clearance/documentation and coordination of consolidation of inventory.

Ensuring all applications are completed to facilitate shipments on arrival.

Arranging shipping/freighting; ensuring timely arrival of inventory at warehouse and cost effectiveness.

Receiving and inspecting shipment arrivals with Warehouse Supervisors, filling out damage/shortage claim forms and following up to ensure receipt and application of credits.

Providing timely bonded transfers to keep bonded warehouse up to date.

Assisting with the annual stock taking process.

Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations; ensuring all duties, taxes and relevant legal requirements are met and kept current.

The Candidate

The Purchasing Assistant should possess:

At least 3 years’ work experience in costing, purchasing and inventory management.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with key stakeholders.

Ability to be proactive and flexible in responding to varied situations.

Ability to be a team player, yet capable of working with minimal supervision.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite namely Word and Excel and a working knowledge of ACCPAC is desirable.
