Job Title: Activity Assistant

Position Summary
This job description is provided during orientation to help you understand your role, responsibilities, and expectations as an Activity Assistant. The Activity Assistant supports the Activity Director in planning, organizing, and implementing engaging programs that enhance residents’ social, physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. This role ensures activities meet regulatory requirements while promoting a positive, inclusive, and vibrant community environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties represent the core responsibilities of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational, social, and wellness programs for residents
Encourage and promote resident participation in activities and events
Ensure programs meet residents’ physical, mental, and psychosocial needs
Provide hands-on assistance with fitness and movement programs
Set up, clean up, maintain safety, and properly store activity supplies and equipment
Assist with planning and coordinating special events, outings, and celebrations
Decorate the community for holidays, seasons, and special occasions
Escort residents to offsite activities and appointments as assigned
Assist with evaluating activities and gathering resident feedback
Promote family and community involvement in activities
Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines
Maintain compliance with applicable state regulations, including DHS 83 and DHS 89 (as applicable)
Respond appropriately to emergencies within scope of practice and company procedures
Attend required meetings, trainings, and educational programs
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
Report to work on time and prepared for scheduled shifts
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Activity Director or management
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements:
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required
One to three months of related experience or training preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience working with older adults, long-term care, or skilled nursing preferred
Certificates, Licenses, and Training
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
First Aid/Choking, Fire Safety, and Standard Precautions training preferred

Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
Friendly, professional, and service-oriented demeanor
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Basic computer skills

Schedule and Availability
Ability to work a flexible schedule including every other weekend and every other holiday
Occasional travel may be required
Physical Demands
Regular standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands
Occasional sitting, bending, twisting, climbing, and lifting
Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Work Environment
Moderate noise level typical of a senior living community.
Full-time
