Overview
STN is seeking a Data Center Technician to join our infrastructure team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and support of our mission-critical data center environment in Chicago, Illinois. You’ll work hands-on with hardware, cabling, monitoring systems, and server infrastructure, while collaborating with IT engineers to deliver reliable and secure services to our organization and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain servers, networking equipment, and related hardware.
Monitor system performance, uptime, and environmental conditions within the data center.
Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment, including hardware inspections and cable management.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, connectivity, and power issues.
Assist with hardware lifecycle management (rack/stack, decommissioning, upgrades).
Maintain accurate documentation of equipment, workflows, and incidents in Netbox.
Ensure compliance with security, safety, and operational standards.
Experience & Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
3+ years of experience in a data center or IT infrastructure role.
Familiarity with server hardware, networking basics, and operating systems (Windows/Linux).
Hands-on experience with racking, cabling, and hardware troubleshooting.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs) as needed.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
Preferred
Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
Knowledge of monitoring tools and ticketing systems.
Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Network+, or similar.
Familiarity with power management, cooling systems, or large-scale data center operations.
Compensation
Full-Time, Exempt
$70,000-$85,000/year, DOE
