Position Purpose:
The HVAC Apprentice assists HVAC Service Technicians with the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This entry-level role is designed to provide hands-on training and technical skill development while supporting daily service operations. The HVAC Apprentice works under supervision to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards and industry regulations.
Typical Job Duties:
Assist HVAC Service Technicians with installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps.
Help perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning coils, replacing filters, and checking system components.
Support technicians in diagnosing system issues and preparing tools and equipment for repairs.
Carry, organize, and maintain tools, materials, and equipment at job sites.
Learn to read and interpret basic technical manuals, diagrams, and work orders.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including job sites and service vehicles.
Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Communicate effectively with technicians and office staff regarding job progress and needs.
Participate in training programs, certifications, and on-the-job learning opportunities.
Provide professional and courteous interaction with customers when on-site.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces such as attics and crawlspaces. Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
Primarily field-based at residential and commercial job sites. Exposure to outdoor elements, confined spaces, and HVAC equipment. May require overtime, early mornings, or occasional weekend work during peak seasons.
Equipment and Machines Used:
Hand tools, power tools, HVAC equipment, ladders, service vehicles, and mobile devices.
Reporting Relationships:
The HVAC Apprentice reports to the District Manager and works directly under the supervision of HVAC Service Technicians or Lead Technicians.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Enrollment in or completion of an HVAC training program is preferred.
Related Experience: No prior experience required; mechanical aptitude or basic construction experience is a plus.
