Automation Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Automation Engineer to design, develop, implement and commission industrial automation systems. The role is responsible for PLC programming, VFD configuration and tuning, robotics integration, and leading automation projects from concept through handover. The ideal candidate will ensure reliable, safe, and efficient operation of automated equipment while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, vendors and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain PLC control logic and software (IEC 61131-3, Rockwell, Siemens or equivalent).
Specify, configure, commission and tune Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to meet motor and process requirements.
Integrate industrial robots (programming, communication and safety integration) with PLC and cell-level controls (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, UR or similar).
Lead and manage automation projects including scope definition, schedules, resource coordination, risk mitigation and status reporting.
Develop HMI/SCADA screens and operator interfaces, and ensure clear and effective human-machine interaction.
Create, review and maintain control system documentation including wiring diagrams, I/O lists, network architecture and functional specifications.
Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), commissioning and start-up support; troubleshoot and resolve issues during installation and production ramp-up.
Ensure compliance with electrical and machine safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures and relevant local regulations.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and process engineers, procurement and external vendors to ensure integration and delivery of project milestones.
Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance personnel and prepare as-built documentation for handover.Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation engineering with documented PLC programming experience.
Proven experience with VFD specification, configuration and commissioning (ABB, Danfoss, Yaskawa or similar).
Experience integrating industrial robotics into production cells and coordinating robot-PLC communication and safety systems.
Demonstrated project management experience establishing schedules, coordinating teams and delivering projects on time and within budget (PMP or equivalent is a plus).
Familiarity with industrial network protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, EtherCAT) and fieldbus systems.
Experience developing HMI/SCADA applications (FactoryTalk, WinCC, Ignition or similar).
Ability to read and produce electrical schematics, control panel layouts and I/O documentation.
Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills during commissioning and production support.
Excellent communication skills, teamwork orientation and the ability to interact with vendors and stakeholders; willingness to travel to project sites as required.
