Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED.
Additional education and/or training desirable.
* Level III certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment level * Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
* Demonstrate ethical behavior.

* Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
* Assist in implementing intervention strategies to meet the goals of the IEP.
* Communicate information in an unbiased manner.
* Transliterate spoken English to signed English.
* Interpret spoken English into the language of the student.
* Interpret the language of the student into standard English.
* Meet/plan with the classroom teacher to familiarize his/herself with the language and concepts.
* Convey the social-emotional contents of the message through appropriate facial expressions and body language.
* Abide by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct Additional Duties and Responsibilities: * Other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the immediate supervisor, the principal and/or the superintendent.
* Sign at school programs as necessary.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling and moving light furniture may be required.
Safety & Health: * Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
Equipment/Material Handled: The interpreter must be able to operate multimedia equipment, appropriately use classroom materials, and follow the classroom curriculum.
Take precautions to protect equipment, materials and facilities.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
Interruptions of work are routine.
Job responsibilities include both inside and outside assignments.
Flexibility and patience are required.
Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.
May make site or home visits as needed.
Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
SALARY: Deaf Interpreter Salary Schedule: 168 Days
