Dispatch Intern
Shields Asphalt Paving, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Dispatch Intern to assist our dispatch and operations team. This position is a great opportunity for a student or entry-level candidate interested in construction operations, logistics, or fleet management to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment.
The Dispatch Intern will support daily trucking operations, help maintain records, and assist with coordination between drivers, plants, and project teams.
Responsibilities
Assist with preparing daily trucking schedules using company-owned and broker trucks
Support dispatching of triaxles through communication with drivers and brokers
Monitor trucking activity using dispatch and GPS software
Help identify inefficiencies and report observations to dispatch staff
Assist in coordinating trucking needs with project managers and superintendents
Help maintain driver and equipment records, including licensing, registrations, insurance cards, and maintenance logs
Support compliance documentation related to DOT and safety regulations
Assist with dispatch reports and data entry
Communicate with asphalt and stone plants regarding product availability
Assist with timecard entry and payroll support tasks
Support fuel tracking and reporting
Assist with organizing training records and safety documentation
Perform general administrative and operational support tasks as assigned
Requirements
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
Good written and verbal communication skills
Basic computer skills, including Excel and email
Reliable transportation and willingness to work in an office environment
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in construction, logistics, or fleet operations
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in business, construction management, logistics, or a related field (not required)
