The Company The Columbus Symphony has served as central Ohios flagship music organization since 1951 Our musicians conductors chorus and world renowned guest artists enrich the central Ohio community through extraordinary talent passion dedication and the highest standards of musicianship Guided by the artistic vision of Music Director Rossen Milanov the Columbus Symphony offers four programming brands Masterworks Pops Picnic with the Pops and EducationCommunity Engagement This segmented approach innovative within the American orchestra industry is helping the Columbus Symphony to reach new younger and more diverse audiences Primary Function The Artistic Coordinator serves as a key collaborator in the creation and execution of Columbus Symphonys artistic endeavors by providing support to the Music Director and the Vice President for Artistic Planning & Programs in both the creative development and logistical aspects of artistic planning Duties and Responsibilities Collaborate with VP Music Director and other relevant staff in developing and planning innovative and inclusive artistic and educational programs and concert experiences that attract and educate audiences and support revenue goalsMaintain positive working relationships with Music Director Principal Pops Conductor Chorus Director CSO musicians and external artistic partners such as BalletMet and Opera ColumbusAssist the VP with negotiating and drafting contracts and communicate with guest artists including conductors soloists composers dancers stage directors etcOversee the timely and accurate execution of logistics for guest artist engagements by ensuring engagement offers are drafted and tracked contracts and payments are issued and expenses are appropriately tracked against budgetProvide CSO hospitality travel itineraries accommodations green room food & beverage transportation etc that meets the highest standards of care and attention and when necessary supervise any runners interns andor volunteers necessary to assist in executing hospitality needsAttend rehearsals and concerts ensuring high quality artistaudience experiencesCoordinate Music Director calendar during Columbus residencies and assist Music Director onsite as neededAssist with auditions as neededServe as a conduit for effective communication between the Artistic department and other CSO departments by gathering organizing and sharing information including using ArtsVision concerning guest artists repertoire and schedule in a timely and accurate mannerCollaborate with VP on media related projects and media related aspects of guest artist contractsEnsure that project details are accurate prior to musician roster publishing deadlinesManage archival recording requests from guest artists andor managersCollaborate with VP and GM on budgeting and budget trackingReview marketing materials for artistic accuracy and effectivenessThis job description is not designed to cover or contain an exhaustive listing of duties responsibilities and key performance objectives that are expected of the employee These items may change or new job related items may be assigned from time to time Knowledge Skills and Abilities Strong knowledge of classical orchestral and chamber music and other artforms and ability to read music Unwavering commitment to artistic excellenceA collaborative and team focused work style that engenders trust and credibility with colleaguesAbility to manage numerous projects and productions simultaneously in a demanding multi activity work environmentThorough understanding of orchestral instrumentation and practices related to orchestra musician hiringExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills and acute attention to detailAbility to work independently with good time management skillsAbility to maintain a high degree of confidentialityAbility to occasionally lift 25 pounds Credentials and Experience Bachelors degree in music arts administration or related field A masters degree in music or Artistic Administration is preferredTypically 3 years of experience working for a professional orchestra in an administrative role is needed to have sufficient experience and judgement to perform a role of this size and complexityBase pay for this role is 2022hourSpecial RequirementsThe majority of CSOs public events take place at night and on weekends This position requires the ability to have reliable transportation frequently working evenings and weekends when theatre activity is requiredValid drivers license clean driving record and successful background check
