Job Summary

The Furnace Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining furnace equipment to melt and process aluminum materials. This role involves ensuring the furnace operates efficiently and safely while maintaining the desired quality of molten aluminum. The operator monitors temperatures, adds raw materials, and oversees the melting process to ensure compliance with safety and production standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Furnace Operation:

Start, operate, and shut down aluminum furnaces according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Adjust furnace settings to maintain optimal temperature and material flow.

Load raw materials into the furnace and monitor the melting process.

Ensure uniformity in molten aluminum composition through continuous monitoring and adjustments.

Quality Control:

Conduct routine checks of the aluminums chemical composition and temperature.

Record furnace data, including temperature logs, material input, and melting times.

Conduct visual inspections and quality tests on molten aluminum to detect impurities or defects.

Safety and Maintenance:

Adhere to all safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Regularly inspect furnace components for signs of wear or damage.

Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning furnace linings and replacing worn parts.

Report any mechanical issues or safety hazards to the supervisor immediately.

Material Handling:

Operate hoists, cranes, and other equipment to move raw materials and molten aluminum.

Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and additives, ensuring sufficient supply for production.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.

Complete shift reports detailing production output and any operational issues.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience in furnace operation or metal casting preferred.

Experience in a manufacturing or foundry environment is highly desirable.

Skills:

Knowledge of furnace operations, metallurgy, and safety practices.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and SOPs.

Proficiency in operating heavy machinery and industrial equipment.

Basic computer skills for data entry and logging.

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in industrial environments with exposure to heat, noise, and moving machinery.

Physically able tolift upto 50lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.

Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and respond to after-hourscalls.

Work Environment

Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.

Use of PPE required, including gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

This will be 12 hour shifts in a 2-2-3 pattern - 7am-7pm/7pm-7am. No rotating shifts.
