Job Summary/Purpose

The Director of Development will oversee the strategic planning, management, and execution of Ohio Hospice’s Foundation Fundraising Campaign activities. This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift donors, cultivating relationships with donors and prospects, and leading efforts to meet the Foundation's fundraising goals. The Director will collaborate across teams and work closely with senior leadership to strengthen donor relationships and advance the mission of Ohio's Hospice.

This person will serve the Columbus, Ohio area.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Management and Major Gifts, Leadership Gifts and Hope Society:

• Manage a portfolio of 100-125 constituents for major gifts (primarily $5,000+); leadership gifts ($500-$4,999) and Hope Society annual membership campaign ($1,500+).

• Identify and build long-term, sustainable relationships with both individual and institutional donors.

• Ability to close a gift for programs supported by philanthropic dollars.

• Practice moves management model to build, maintain and grow organization relationships with 132 visits, 100 moves and 20+ ask on an annual basis.

• Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through tailored strategies including qualifications, proposals, and recognition programs.

• Develop personalized strategies to increase donor engagement and contributions, leveraging events, campaigns, and one-on-one meetings.

• Meet or exceed annual fundraising metrics and provide regular progress reports to the Ohio's Hospice Foundation President.

Campaign Management and Strategy:

• Oversee the strategic planning and implementation of all Foundation fundraising campaigns, ensuring timely and efficient execution.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to track campaign progress, assess needs, and refine strategies for success.

• Manage budgets for fundraising campaigns and special events, ensuring revenue goals are met and expenses are controlled.

Collaborative Leadership:

• Work closely with the President of Ohio’s Hospice Foundation on donor relations and corporate foundation activities.

• Advise and support the Donor Relations and Stewardship team on stewardship activities, including recognition strategies and naming opportunities.

• Partner with internal teams (Prospect Research, Gift Administration, and Finance) to track campaign progress and prepare financial reports.

Special Events and Sponsorship:

• Lead the cultivation and solicitation of corporate and individual sponsorships for special events to meet revenue goals.

• Develop and implement action plans to ensure events align with Ohio's Hospice branding and fundraising objectives.

• Manage and secure sponsorships for special events and ensure budget compliance.

Stewardship and Donor Relations:

• Oversee the stewardship process for major gifts, ensuring donor intent is met and maintaining clear communication with donors.

• Prepare annual stewardship reports and work with the Donor Relations team to ensure proper acknowledgment and recognition of donors.

• Engage with donors in meaningful ways through events, tours, and one-on-one meetings.

Memorial Programs:

• Partner with Foundation staff to promote and sell Memorial Plaques and Campus Gardens, including high-level naming opportunities.

• Develop strategies for mid-level to high-value gift solicitations ranging from $1,200 to $10,000+.

Team and Community Engagement:

• Participate in and support Ohio Hospice Foundation’s fundraising events and activities, working closely with community leaders and volunteers.

• Serve as a Foundation representative at key community and professional events, including organizations like Rotary, and other networking opportunities

Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of experience in fundraising or development, with a strong background in major gift solicitation, donor relations, and campaign management.

• Skills: Strong project management, interpersonal, and communication skills. Proven ability to build and manage donor relationships and achieve fundraising goals.

• Leadership: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, senior leadership, and donors to implement and advance fundraising strategies.

• Fiscal Management: Demonstrated experience in budget oversight and financial analysis to track fundraising progress.

• Event Management: Experience in planning, executing, and managing fundraising events, including sponsorship procurement and donor cultivation.

• Technology: Familiarity with donor management software (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, DonorPerfect) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Charismatic and engaging personality with excellent interpersonal skills.

• Strong organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

• Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team player.

• High emotional intelligence with the capacity to build trust and rapport with donors and colleagues
