Medical Coder (Inpatient)

We are seeking Medical Coder (Inpatient) for a large healthcare system based out of Houston, TX.

This is a contract role for 13 weeks.

Summary:

Responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM/CPT4 codes and modifiers for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Accurately code conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD-10-CM & CPT4 Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Typically reports to Coding Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Review clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and modifiers

Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards

Abstract and input data for reporting and billing purposes

Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and coding queries

Support quality, compliance, and reimbursement accuracy

Adhere to AHIMA ethical coding standards

Requirements

2+ years of coding experience (E/M coding required)

Experience in Neurology / Neurosurgery coding preferred

Knowledge of HCC coding (preferred)

One of the following certifications required:

CCS, CPC, RHIT, CMC, or CCA
