As a Technology Engineer within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh PA, Columbus OH, Strongsville OH, Birmingham AL, Phoenix AZ or Dallas TX.

The Technology Engineer – Mainframe Systems is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise mainframe environments. This role provides technical expertise across core mainframe technologies, ensuring system stability, performance, and reliable batch and file processing. The engineer partners closely with application teams, infrastructure, and operations to support critical business processes.

Key Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day mainframe production support, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution

Support and maintain batch processing cycles, job scheduling, and file transfers

Diagnose and resolve incidents related to COBOL applications, databases, and system utilities

Perform analysis and remediation for DB2, VSAM, and sequential file processing issues

Utilize mainframe tools such as TSO and File-AID for debugging, data analysis, and problem resolution

Execute and support file transfers across systems, ensuring data integrity and timeliness

Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and operations teams to implement fixes and enhancements

Participate in system upgrades, maintenance activities, and process improvements

Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures

Support incident, problem, and change management processes in accordance with organizational standards

Required Technical Skills

Strong experience with IBM Mainframe technologies

Proficiency with mainframe toolsets including:

TSO/ISPF

File-AID

Working knowledge of:

COBOL

DB2

VSAM and sequential file structures

Batch processing frameworks

File transfer protocols and processes

Ability to analyze job abends, system logs, and error messages to identify root causes

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting mission-critical mainframe applications in a production environment

Familiarity with scheduling tools and operational monitoring

Understanding of change, incident, and problem management best practices

Prior experience working in a regulated or enterprise-scale environment

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $55,000.00 – $152,375.00

Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
